The first and third flutes above are made from English hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) wood, which is my currently my main prototyping material. The dark colored flute is made from Delrin.
The two wooden flutes have their sockets reinforced with a wrap of carbon fiber under the decorative rings. The light colored rings are turned from holly. The end cap is also holly, but the threaded stopper holder is turned from ivory colored Delrin.
The black decorative rings, end cap and stopper holder are turned from buffalo horn. The rings on the Delrin flute are integral with the body, and the threaded stopper holder and end cap are also from Delrin.
The two wooden flutes have French-style tuning slides and partially lined heads. The choice of wood, ring material, and tuning slide design makes them feel very light and resonant in the hand. They feel and play like a boxwood flute. The Delrin flute does not have a tuning slide, but its tuning can be adjusted slightly at the head-body socket/tenon.
